Virgin Atlantic Upper Class (A330-neo/A350) has consistently outperformed expectations for a decade. The bar – a physical bar, where you can have a drink standing up at 37,000 feet – remains a differentiator that sounds gimmicky until you’ve used it to decompress at the end of a long day. Then you arrive in London genuinely refreshed rather than merely rested. The Retreat Suite on the A330-neo, launched in 2024, is among the best transatlantic flights business class products in the sky. It is a double-bed configuration available for couples or solo travelers who want maximum space. Also, JFK–LHR is the flagship route.
Lufthansa Business Class (747-8/A350) operates a product that wins on the ground as much as in the air. The First Class Terminal at Frankfurt – available to Business Class passengers on select bookings and Senator Card holders – is the finest airport experience in Europe: private check-in, a dedicated terminal, sit-down dining, a spa, and a Porsche transfer to the aircraft. The seat itself is solid if unspectacular; it is the surrounding ecosystem that makes Lufthansa business particularly compelling for the traveler who values the full door-to-door experience.
Air France Business (La Première aside) on the 777 and A350 out of CDG delivers one of the most aesthetically pleasing cabin environments in the sky – a product that feels, correctly, designed by people with a genuine point of view about what a beautiful space should look like. The dining is exceptional: proper multi-course service with a wine list curated by Flying Blue Platinum sommeliers. JFK–CDG and ORD–CDG deploy this product.
The Route-Specific Recommendations

For Chicago O’Hare travelers: ORD–LHR on BA Club Suite is the default recommendation. The overnight departure westbound (LHR–ORD) suits the business traveler’s return schedule well. Virgin’s ORD–MAN route via Manchester is worth knowing for travelers heading to the UK’s north – a significantly underused option with strong onboard product and a less congested arrival experience than Heathrow.
For New York JFK travelers: The embarrassment of riches is real. JFK has direct business class access to LHR on BA, VS, and AA; to CDG on AF and DL; to AMS on KL; to FRA on LH and UA. Among these, Virgin Upper Class and Air France La Nouvelle Business on the A350 are the editorial picks for experience; Lufthansa for ground ecosystem and European onward connections.
For Miami and East Coast travelers: AA’s JFK/MIA–LHR Flagship Business is more competitive than its reputation suggests, particularly on the newer 777-300ER deployments. The Flagship Lounge at MIA remains underrated and worth building time around.
