Amangiri (‘peaceful mountain’) lies at the centre of the USA's Grand Circle, surrounded by the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and Bryce and Zion National Parks. Boasting some of the country's most dramatic scenery, this ancient landscape of deep canyons and towering plateaus – the last remnants of truly wild America – is home to the native Navajo tribe. Situated on 364 hectares (900 acres) in Canyon Point, southern Utah, Amangiri's concrete structure appears hewn from the rocks. Contemporary and minimalist, the bold design showcases the incredible scenery: windows frame ancient mesas and breathtaking desert skies, and the main swimming pool curves around a dramatic stone escaprment. Guests arrive via a winding road that leads to the property's central Pavilion, from where vistas unfold towards the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Built around the main pool, the Pavilion houses the Dining Room, which opens onto an outdoor dining terrace overlooking the pool; the Living Room; a library; gallery; private dining room; and a cellar. Beyond the Pavilion, the open-air Desert Lounge offers a relaxing space for enjoying sunsets and stargazing. A number of open-air venues – the Fireside Pavilion, the Chinle Site, Saddle Landing and Raven's Nest – are available for private dining and events. Two accommodation wings spread from the Pavilion towards the desert. Air-conditioned in summer, heated in winter, each of the 34 suites enjoys sweeping views from a spacious deck, and many offer private pools and roof terraces. The four-bedroom Mesa Home enjoys complete seclusion, with full access to all the resort’s facilities. A destination in itself, ideal for wellness retreats, Amangiri's Aman Spa covers 2,322 square metres (25,000 square feet). Facilities include a water pavilion for hydrotherapy treatments; a floatation-therapy pavilion and a watsu pool; five treatment rooms; two outdoor treatment terraces; a finishing salon; a yoga pavilion; and a comprehensive gym.
