A jewel among historic hotels in Washington DC, The Jefferson started life as a luxury apartment block in 1923. Designed by architect Jules Henri de Sibour in the stunning Beaux-Arts style, by 1955, the apartments had transformed into a hotel for the most discerning travelers. To bring this landmark building into the 21st century, a collective of the world’s finest architectural, design and construction firms spent two years renovating it from top-to-bottom (2007-2009), infusing modern elegance and historical influences into the stately structure. Adding a state-of-the-art kitchen, and elegant upgrades to all the suites and rooms, the common areas, meeting spaces, and restaurants, one of the most exciting discoveries during the renovation was the recovery of a magnificent skylight in the lobby. Part of the original design but hidden since World War II, it once again brings natural light to The Greenhouse, our restaurant. In 2009, The Jefferson was reborn, becoming a renowned hotel in the nation’s capital and quickly has become the most awarded hotel in the city. We look forward to welcoming you and your clients to luxury, to exceptional and personalized service, to The Jefferson, and of course, to Washington, DC.
