Selene Restaurant, a beautiful story of food, love and passion; that began exactly 37 years ago, when in 1985 Giorgos Hatzigiannakis and his lovely wife Evelyn decided to forever change the gastronomic destiny of Santorini by visioning a restaurant that would deliver the very “soul” of the island on their guests’ plates. Based on the unique local ingredients and the long-lost gastronomic traditions of this feral land, living through its best phase yet in the premises of what used to be an 18th century Catholic Monastery. In 2021 Michelin-starred chef Ettore Botrini undertook the responsibility to carry on and evolve the Selene legacy, which entered a new era. At about the same time Yiannis Karakasis MW (Master of Wine), one of the approximately 400 Masters of Wine in the world, took charge of the restaurant’s wine section, placing emphasis of course on the Santorinian vineyard. Selene Antique Caves is a special establishment, exporting wine even to Vatican for ages. Thematic wine tastings, curated by Yiannis Karakasis MW, one of the 416 only Masters of Wine© of the World, set to explore Greek and international wine culture privately for our guests. Experienced sommeliers will unveil the secrets of Santorinian terroir and local vine varieties. You will compare and also explore the style of various producers, locally but also internationally.
