A Modern Mosaic. With city lights and vintage brick as a backdrop, Proper re-imagines and updates an historic Broadway Corridor landmark into a destination hotel. Here, the creative vision of Kelly Wearstler seamlessly blends past and present with compelling design, vintage influence and local art. Each of our 147 rooms and suites is subtly different, and layered with pattern, texture and color. Proper beds are dressed with crisp imported linens, tiled baths are inspired by Moroccan interiors, and are appointed with custom robes and Aesop amenities. Discover a trio of inviting dining destinations in one historic location, helmed by James Beard Award-winners Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne, who bring to DTLA Proper the same guiding principles found over the years at their acclaimed L.A. classics, a.o.c., Hollywood Bowl Food + Wine, and Larder Baking company. Whether at Cara Cara on the panoramic rooftop, Caldo Verde on the lobby-level, or popping into Dalia’s for an evening cocktail, their refined approach highlights the European cultures of Old California with market-driven ingredients, accompanied by a thoughtfully curated selection of wines and cocktails. Inviting public spaces encourage lingering over meals, a rooftop pool deck offers a bird’s-eye view of the city, and a 24-hour fitness center, featuring 3 Peloton Bikes, ensures you stay in shape while on the road.
With city lights and vintage brick as backdrop, Proper re-imagines and updates a landmark in the heart of the Fashion District into a 148-room destination hotel. Here, the creative vision of Kelly Wearstler seamlessly blends past and present with compelling design, vintage influence and local art. Proper has preserved the building's colorful history, from a state-of-the-art private club in the '20s-- when members included Cecil B. DeMille-- to a YWCA in the 1960s. In the creative direction and design of the hotel, Kelly Wearstler looked to Downtown L.A. as her muse, soulfully blending past and present into a sensory, residential environment of deep, warm color and feel. Essentials include two destination restaurants led by James Beard award-winning L.A. chef Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne (Lucques, AOC, Tavern); an intimate lounge, and a city-view rooftop pool and lounge-bar-restaurant. Especially Proper are two singular, one-of-a-kind suites fashioned from the basketball court and indoor pool of the building's sporting club past. Opening Winter 2019
