About
Amanjiwo

Amanjiwo lies within a natural amphitheatre at the foot of the Menoreh Hills overlooking Borobudur, the world’s largest and most beautiful Buddhist monument. The resort rests amongst verdant terraced rice fields and coconut, clove and citrus groves with mountain streams bordering the property on two sides. The architecture of Amanjiwo draws from the history, tradition and culture of Central Java, widely recognized as the birthplace of modern day culture found throughout Indonesia. The main public building is circular in design and rises to a domed centerpiece. The arrival Porte Cochere is flanked by the Lobby, Library, Shop and Gallery and leads to the Bar that overlooks the Dining Room. Stepping down to the lower level reveals panoramic views of the sweeping plains to Borobudur and onto Mt. Sumbing. An outdoor terrace lounge area shaded by trees completes the Dining Room. Two semicircular terraces of 36 suites frame the main building with pathways linking the guest accommodation to the resort facilities. All suites enjoy the view of the plain. Below the lower crescent is the swimming pool and informal Pool Club restaurant. Amanjiwo is located in Central Java, the cultural heartland of Java and modern Indonesia. The rich tradition and ancient culture are revealed as guests have the opportunity to experience the breathtaking nature beauty of rural Java, temples and arts that date back to the 8th and 9th centuries. Amanjiwo’s knowledgeable drivers are able to provide a wonderful introduction to the many attractions of the area.

More About
Amanjiwo

Named ‘Peaceful Soul’ for the serenity of its setting in Central Java’s cultural heartland, Amanjiwo overlooks the Unesco World Heritage Site of Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple. Perfectly placed for exploring the region’s historic and natural attractions, or for simply relaxing in blissful surroundings, the resort cascades from a lofty rotunda down the hillside to a magnificent pool. The resort’s main swimming pool offers exceptional views of Borobudur. Surrounded by rice paddies and overlooked by banyan trees, the 40-metre infinity pool lies adjacent to the Pool Club where light meals and drinks are served. Other dining facilities are situated within the rotunda. From Amanjiwo’s entrance, five steps lead to the Bar, a circular salon with columns and drop fans. Further steps descend to the Restaurant, with its silver-leaf ceiling, double row of stone columns and incredible views over Borobudur and the Kedu Plain. The Restaurant overlooks the Terrace, an alfresco dining area offering the same expansive views. As well as providing a library, boutique, art gallery, spa suites, a gym and tennis center, Amanjiwo also arranges excursions farther afield, whether to historical sites such as Pawon, local markets via andong (horse-drawn cart) or trekking into the hills. Board the regal Amanjiwo train carriage from Jakarta and embark on a seven-hour journey to Yogyakarta through spectacular scenery. You will be joined by Amanjiwo’s resident anthropologist, Patrick Vanhoebrouck, who will share insights into Javanese culture and the historical sites you pass along the way. With meals on your journey prepared by Amanjiwo, your Aman experience will begin from the moment you set foot in your private carriage.
